Privacy Policy
Last updated 23 June 2026 · Applies to the Sila app and this website.
Sila is built to be private by default. Your information lives on your device, the app works fully offline, and we don’t track you, advertise to you, or sell your data — ever. This policy explains exactly what that means.
In one line: If you never sign in, nothing you write in Sila ever leaves your device. Signing in (optional) turns on private sync across your own devices — and that’s the only time your notes touch our servers.
The short version
- Local-first. Everything you create — people, notes, dates, sizes, favorites, reminders — is stored on your device.
- Optional account. You can sign in with Apple, Google, or email to enable cross-device sync and carry your subscription. This is the only path by which your content reaches our servers.
- No tracking. No advertising, no analytics profiling, no data brokers. We don’t build a profile of you.
- You’re in control. Export your data, erase everything, or delete your account at any time, from inside the app.
Who we are
Sila (“Sila”, “we”, “us”) is provided by [Legal entity name], [registered address]. For any privacy question, contact us at privacy@silanotes.app [confirm address]. We are the data controller for the information described here.
What we collect
Information you create in the app
The heart of Sila is content you enter: the people you add and their relationship, your notes and the categories you file them under, dates and occasions, sizes and favorites, tags, and reminder settings. This is your personal relationship data. It is stored on your device, and — only if you sign in — synced to your account.
Account information
If you choose to create an account, we receive the identifier from your chosen sign-in method (your email address, or the account identifier provided by Sign in with Apple or Google). We use this solely to authenticate you, sync your data, and link your subscription entitlement. If you use Sign in with Apple’s “Hide My Email”, we only ever see the relay address.
Subscription information
Purchases of Sila Plus are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never receive or store your payment-card details. We receive a receipt/transaction record from Apple to confirm your subscription is active so we can unlock Plus features.
Diagnostics
We do not embed third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. If you choose to email us for support, we’ll have whatever you include in that message (for example, a description of a bug). Apple may provide us with aggregate, anonymous crash and usage statistics through App Store Connect, which we cannot tie back to you.
How we use your information
- To run the app on your device — the core purpose of Sila.
- To authenticate you and sync your data across your devices, if you sign in.
- To deliver the local reminders you set (these are scheduled on your device — we are not involved when they fire).
- To verify and unlock your Sila Plus subscription.
- To respond to you when you contact support.
Our legal bases (where the GDPR applies) are: performance of our contract with you (running the app, sync, subscriptions), your consent (signing in), and our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and answering support requests.
Where your data lives
On your device. By default, your data is stored locally and never transmitted.
In the cloud, only if you sign in. When you have an account, your data is stored on our hosting and authentication provider, Supabase, and protected by per-account access rules so that only your authenticated account can read or write your records. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and protected at rest by the provider. Servers may be located [specify region, e.g. the EU / United States]; if you are outside that region, your data may be transferred there under appropriate safeguards.
Sharing & service providers
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We rely on a small number of service providers (“processors”) strictly to operate the app:
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, App Store subscription processing, and (for us) anonymous aggregate diagnostics. See Apple’s privacy policy.
- Google — Sign in with Google, if you choose it. See Google’s privacy policy.
- Supabase — authentication and database hosting for signed-in accounts and sync. See Supabase’s privacy policy.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and our service.
Tracking & advertising
Sila contains no advertising and no third-party tracking. We do not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA), we do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not need to show Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt. There are no feeds, no streaks, and nothing engineered to maximise your time in the app.
Data retention & deletion
- Erase all data — wipes everything stored locally on your device, from Settings.
- Backup & restore (Plus) — you can export your data to a single file and re-import it whenever you wish.
- Delete my account — clears your local data, signs you out, and triggers a full deletion of your synced data on our servers. Backups held by our infrastructure provider are purged on their routine cycle thereafter.
If you uninstall the app without signing in, your local data is removed by iOS along with the app.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR or California’s CCPA/CPRA), you have rights to access, correct, export, and delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Because Sila is local-first, you can already exercise most of these directly in the app (export and delete). For anything else, contact us at privacy@silanotes.app [confirm address] and we’ll respond within the timeframe the law requires. We will never charge you for, or discriminate against you for, exercising these rights.
Children
Sila is rated 4+ but is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13 (or the age of digital consent in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we’ll update the date at the top and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continuing to use Sila after a change means you accept the updated policy.
